After dropping Riley off at school this morning, I went to the McDonald's drive-thru for some McMuffiny goodness. Image my surprise when I saw an employee wheeling a cart full of garbage to the dumpster that included a full-sized, cloth American flag. He dragged it across the parking lot and dumped it in the dumpster.
I mentioned it to Mark, the manager working the window, and he apologized but kind of just shrugged it off.
Has proper flag procedure become so low on corporate priorities?
Below is the email I sent to McDonald's corporate along with the pictures (!!) I took of the "ceremony." Sorry about the quality -- I was shooting through my horribly dirty windshield.
While waiting my turn to order at the drive-thru, I witnessed an employee wheel a palette of garbage out to your dumpster. On that palette were empty french fry boxes, empty fry oil jugs, and a full-sized AMERICAN FLAG that dragged on the ground all the way across the parking lot before it was unceremoniously thrown into the dumpster along with the rest of the refuse.
I told the manager, and while he apologized, it didn't seem like he was very concerned. I told him that he and his company should be ashamed.
I guess McDonald's only respects our flag on Veteran's Day and other holidays when they can turn a buck.
